British bad girl
British bad girl
From the one and only truly bad girl of British contemporary art, The Chromarty, is fortunate to be able to offer this one of only two hundred kinds, limited edition...(no not a print!)..but a suitcase, that is- a signed artwork by Tracey Emin.
A similar one was recently sold at the auction house Christie's and one of the other editions has been acquired by The Victoria & Albert museum in London.
Tracey Emin’s art is one of disclosure, using events from her own life as inspiration for works ranging from painting, drawing, video and installation, to photography, needlework and sculpture. Emin reveals her hopes, humiliations, failures and successes in candid and, at times, excoriating works that are frequently both tragic and humorous. She is by far one of The Chromarty favourite artists! For Emin’s collaboration with Longchamp, she linked the work to a narrative she had crafted. In Emin’s story, an ‘International Woman’ travelled from one city to another, in search of n ‘International Love’ with an ‘International Man’.
Longchamp produced this suitcase in a limited edition of two hundred, each with a personal connection to the artist. Each copy carried a rosette upon which Emin drew the Longchamp logo. Each rosette included a handwritten name of a street, city, or hotel which reminded the artist of a romantic moment or encounter from her own life. The location for this bag’s inspiration was Victoria Station.
This suitcase, from 2004, is made of woolen blanket with applique cotton and cashmere fabrics. It has felt letters, leather handles and flap, cotton canvas lining and a rosette with a hand drawn Longchamp logo. There is a handwritten unique place name Victoria Station above Emin’s signature. It is from an edition of 200, commissioned for Longchamp, and comes with the original cloth covered box and certificate. The bag and the box are both in excellent condition.
